Synopsis : ‘Into the Woods’
Stichting Musicalgezelschap Rits is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with its staging of the musical ‘Into the Woods’, a fairytale-like spectacle of the American composer/writer Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. The story takes place in the fairy woods, where we meet with familiar figures.
In the first act the characters try to fulfill their wishes. Assepoester wishes for a king’s ball, Sjaak of the Bonenstaak and his mum wish for some wealth, the baker and his wife wish for a child, the princes are looking for true love, Roodkapje is on her way to her grandmother, the wolf smells his prey and the witch has her own reasons. They all meet in the woods. At first they live happily ever after, but the play takes a surprising turn in the second act. The characters are faced with setbacks, aggression, temptation and deceit. The cold hard reality of life.
